Spine & School bag

What causes scoliosis to develop in school-going children?

School children, particularly teenage girls, are more susceptible to developing scoliosis compared to other age groups. While carrying heavy school bags, sitting in abnormal postures, and other similar factors are often believed by the public to cause scoliosis, they do not actually contribute to its development. Instead, various factors such as hormonal changes, growth discrepancies between bones and muscles, and genetic influences are considered potential causes. However, modern science has yet to identify a specific cause for scoliosis, hence it is referred to as Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis.
