Spine & rib cage

Why is the thoracic spine important?

The thoracic spine plays a crucial role as the anchor for the ribs, forming the thoracic cage along with the sternum. This structure protects vital organs such as the heart and lungs, which are housed within it. Its natural *kyphotic curvature* helps accommodate these organs while contributing to overall spinal alignment. Unlike the more mobile cervical and lumbar regions, the thoracic spine has **limited movement**, ensuring stability for the rib cage. Additionally, the muscles attached to the rib cage enhance upper body support, making the thoracic spine essential for both structural integrity and respiratory function.
