Lumbar Interbody Fusion is a recommended procedure performed for certain spinal conditions that have not responded to medical treatment, such as spondylolisthesis, disc prolapse, and scoliosis. This surgical procedure involves removing the damaged disc between two vertebrae and replacing it with a patient’s own bone or a cage to promote fusion between the two bones. To aid in the healing process, pedicle screws are inserted under Navigation & robotic guidance and connected with rods to stabilize the spine. Depending on the approach, the surgery can be performed from the back (TLIF/PLIF), Sides (OLIF/XLIF), minimally invasively (MIS TLIF), or from the front (ALIF).
Dr Ramachandran is proficient in performing all types of fusions and ensures that patients are able to walk, sit, bend, and climb stairs without external braces immediately after surgery. This procedure not only provides stability to the spine but also allows patients to resume their daily activities without much delay.
