What is Dropped Head Syndrome?
Dropped Head Syndrome, also known as cervical kyphosis or “chin-on-chest” deformity, occurs due to abnormalities in the cervical spine or neck muscles. When cervical muscles are weakened by conditions such as spinal muscular atrophy or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the patient struggles to maintain an upright neck position. Similarly, bone-related issues like ankylosing spondylitis or cervical spine fractures can result in a severely bent neck. This condition can be highly debilitating, affecting posture, normal eye gaze, and even the ability to eat properly due to swallowing difficulties.
