What is Hyperostosis, and how does it affect the spine?
Hyperostosis is a condition marked by excessive bone formation, commonly associated with disorders such as Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis (DISH), Melorheostosis, and Leri disease. It primarily affects the spinal bones, and while some individuals remain asymptomatic, others may experience significant neurological complications like Myelopathy, stenosis, due to spinal cord compression. In medical imaging, particularly X-rays and CT scans, the additional bone growth often appears as if wax is dripping or flowing down a candle, creating a distinct visual pattern.
