Spine & Walking distance

What is claudication?

In lumbar canal stenosis, commonly seen in elderly individuals, the walking distance gradually decreases over time. Although symptoms might not be present at rest, after walking a certain distance, individuals begin to experience numbness, tingling, and a crampy feeling in their legs, especially in the calf muscles. The distance they can walk before these symptoms appear is inversely proportional to the severity of the pressure on the spinal nerves in the low back region.
