Spine – Tail bone pain

What is tailbone pain?

Tailbone pain, also known as coccydynia, originates from the last spinal bone called the coccyx. It often occurs in women after childbirth due to the stretching of ligaments and joints. It can also result from a fall where one lands in a sitting position. In rare cases, it can be caused by tumors in the bone. Tailbone pain can persist for years, becoming a chronic issue that makes sitting difficult. Treatment typically involves pain management and using doughnut pillows to relieve pressure.
