What is a Tethered Spinal Cord?
The spinal cord usually moves freely within the spinal canal when we bend forward or backward. However, if it becomes tethered or attached to the spinal bone, it can lead to nerve tissue damage during spine movements. This condition is often congenital, where the end of the spinal cord, called the filum terminale, is abnormally connected to the sacral or coccyx bone.It is similar to how a balloon’s string is tethered when held in hand.
