What is clasp-knife spasticity ?
Clasp-knife spasticity is a type of hypertonia often seen in individuals with cervical or thoracic spinal cord lesions. During repeated passive joint movements, it is characterized by a marked initial resistance to limb motion, followed by a sudden release of tension—resembling the quick snap of a clasp knife. This presentation signals possible upper motor neuron dysfunction and requires further neurological assessment and imaging to determine the underlying cause.
