What causes radicular pain in disc prolapses?

Radicular pain in disc-related conditions results from mechanical and chemical factors. Inflammatory mediators, like prostaglandins, from the prolapsed disc cause chemical pain, which often resolves with time or medication. Mechanical pressure on nerve roots, however, typically requires further intervention as it does not resolve naturally.
