What is the Relationship Between Females and Scoliosis ?
Females tend to be more commonly affected by scoliosis than males. During adolescence, the most frequent form—adolescent idiopathic scoliosis—typically arises in girls around the time of puberty. While the exact cause isn’t clearly understood, it often involves curvature in the thoracic region of the spine.
In older women, another prevalent form is degenerative scoliosis. This type develops as a result of age-related changes such as facet joint and disc degeneration, along with osteoporosis. It is most often seen in the lumbar spine and is a common cause of spinal curvature in elderly females.
